Backwards

I have started a new challenge for myself. For the month of May, I will be using this word prompt as my guide.

Backwards

3 months later

Sydney is next.

She hears her name called.

She stands, her stomach is full of butterflies and her heart pounding out of her chest.

She walks across the stage to accept her diploma and shakes the presenter’s hand.

She turns to look out to the sea of people and finds her family.

Her parents.

Maverick.

Harlow.

Sydney makes her way back to her seat.

Things turned out a little differently than she had imagined.

It wasn’t bad, just different.

She thought she would be graduating with her brother, accepting their diplomas back to back.

There was a time where she believed her brother wouldn’t even see her graduate.

While it’s not what she planned for, she is thankful it worked out, and Maverick is here.

Once the ceremony is over, she meets up with her family, receiving hugs from everyone.

Sydney takes a couple of steps backwards out of the crowds for a moment to breath.

To take it all in.

Maverick joins her.

“I’m sorry I didn’t graduate with you like I promised.”

“I’m just happy you’re here.”

“Me too.”

Thank you so much for following this crazy twenty-day journey with me! What a journey it’s been. When I started this, I never imagined it would turn into this. That it would end up connecting into a story. It has been such a challenge but a good challenge. I really liked telling a story in these short little bits. I have to give a big thank you to my mom for not only being my editor but also having to deal with hearing about it all day long. This month I have become so obsessed with this story. It pretty took over my life! I’m sad it’s over. I hope you enjoyed Sydney and Maverick’s story. I know I enjoyed writing it. Thank you again!
