Outbreak

I have started a new challenge for myself. For the month of May, I will be using this word prompt as my guide.

Outbreak

Sydney jolts awake, she could have sworn she heard her brother calling out from his room.

For a moment, it’s like they were little kids again, Maverick always had the most vivid dreams.

And she would always pad into his room to wake him up and stay with him until he fell back asleep.

Sydney untangles herself from her blankets and makes her way down the hall.

Sydney knocks on Maverick’s door, “Mav?”

She opens his door and sees him tossing and turning, mumbling in his sleep.

She sits down on the edge of his bed, and rubs his shoulder, “Hey, Mav, wake up.”

Maverick slowly comes too, he looks a little startled but relaxes once he sees Sydney.

“You were having a bad dream.”

“Sorry See, did I wake you?”

“It’s okay.”

Maverick sits up next to Sydney and takes a deep breath to slow down his racing heart.

He couldn’t let on that his dream was more than just a dream.

“Do you want to talk about it?”

Maverick glances away from Sydney, “I don’t know.”

“When you’re ready, I’ll be there to listen. Good night Maverick.”

“Thank you. Night Syd.”

Sydney stands up to leave and walk back to her own bed to get some sleep.

Her heart hurts for her brother, wishing she could do more to help him.

Sydney is just about to close his door behind her.

“There was this outbreak on foreign soil…we were told to we needed to train, just in case…”
