Wander

I have started a new challenge for myself. For the month of May, I will be using this word prompt as my guide.

Wander

Lena walks into the living room to join her husband, Trevor, “do you think Sydney’s been off?”

“For wanting to come home for the weekend?”

“That, and I’ve hardly heard from her all week.”

“I’m sure it’s just stress. She’s got a lot on her plate.”

“I guess you’re right.”

“Probably just wants a home cooked meal and a night in her own bed.”

Lena settles on the sofa to watch some television, waiting patiently for her daughter.

Maverick sits quietly in the passenger seat as Sydney drives the two hours home.

She pulls up the driveway, parks the car, and walks up to the front door.

Maverick follows behind her, but stays just a few steps behind and waits out of eyeshot.

He takes a deep breath as Sydney rings the bell.

Feeling the medal in his pocket he received for his bravery.

His mind starts to wander, thinking how his parents will react when he presents it.
