I have started a new challenge for myself. For the month of May, I will be using this word prompt as my guide.
Bliss
“Hi, Sydney.”
“Hey.”
“It’s good to see you.”
“Yeah, you too.”
“Look, I’m sorry, for all this but let me explain.”
“I’m sorry too…I should’ve been more supportive.”
“I did want to go to college with you, but I wanted to follow Dad’s footsteps and join the Navy.”
“I understand Mavs, and I’m…we are all proud of you and your service. But it scared me.”
“Me too.”
“You’re my twin! We have spent every day together, had every class together, to go from that to not seeing you in months…years…possibly never again.”
“Believe me it wasn’t an easy choice.”
“It’s been over a year since we heard that you got hurt and almost two since we saw you last. Why didn’t you come home? Or at least call your family to tell us your safe?”
“Look, Syd, you don’t have to worry again. I won’t be going back.”
“What?”
“That accident…during training…I didn’t tell anyone but I’ve lost most of my sight in my right eye.”
“Maverick!”
“I know, I know. I’ve been running from my problems and it’s time that I face them.”
“So, where have you been hiding?”
“My girlfriend’s…”
“You have a girlfriend!”
“Yeah, so the reason why I wanted to see you is so that you can come home with me. I haven’t been home yet.”
“Sure, Maverick. I’d like that.”
Sydney hugged her brother, feeling blissful for the first time in years knowing she has her twin back.
