Stand

I have started a new challenge for myself. For the month of May, I will be using this word prompt as my guide.

Stand

Sydney looks to her phone for the time, sees that its 2:47 in the morning, and groans.

There is no way she is getting any sleep tonight, how could she though?

She tries everything to pass the slow ticking seconds by scrolling through social media.

To try to keep herself distracted enough not to cause her brain to swirl into a fit of emotions.

It doesn’t work for long because she found herself re-reading the text message she sent earlier.

Reading the small print under the message that says seen, seen but not responded to.

Not knowing is driving Sydney out of her mind.

She turns off her phone and places it back on her nightstand, hoping to get some sleep.

If he was going to respond, Maverick would of done it by now, plain and simple.

She expected an answer either way she chose.

He clearly made his choice without weighing in hers.

He once again turned against his own words.

He says one thing but does another.

It wasn’t the first time and Sydney hates herself for falling for another one of his stupid games.

How could she be so gullible?

So easy to be played.

Sydney lays in the bed questioning her choice even though it seems like it doesn’t matter.

Maverick disappeared from her life again leaving things unsaid.

Why did she expect things to be different this time around?

Sydney must’ve fallen asleep at some point because she wakes up to her doorbell ringing.

Putting on her robe and pulling her hair back in a bun, she makes her way down the front door.

To her surprise, she sees Maverick standing holding a box of donuts and two cups of coffee.
